Lumos!
Hello my people! It's Sofia! I'm now continuing my line of Harry Potter reviews with year two! Like I said in my Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, I am a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious mega geek of the Harry Potter franchise, so, here I am! Let's get on with the review! HIT IT! (Don't read this unless you have read the first book) ONCE UPON A BOOK REVIEW Coming back for his second year at Hogwarts, famous Harry Potter is with the Dursleys once more. They are afraid of Harry for he conveniently forgot to tell them he's not allowed to do magic out of school. While he is at the Dursleys, a mysterious house elf sneaks in and tells the boy who lived about a unspeakable plot going on at Hogwarts School, and that he mustn't return. Harry, being Harry, insists that "Hogwarts is my HOME!" (ain't it the truth), and gets in trouble (again). Cars fly, trees attack and writing on the walls of Hogwarts appears, warning the school of what is to come... Whats a house elf? Who is behind this plot? Read the book to find out! Review: *Spoiler Alerts* I LOVE THIS BOOOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J.K, you've done it again! How? NOBODY KNOWS! But honestly, J.K. Rowling is such a literary genius. She created a world in which we all want to be a part of. Overall, SHE IS DA BEST!!!! The book is a little creepy (for nine year olds), gory, and it includes a battle scene with wands? NOOOOO! With a sword! In this book we get a little more background history of our home at heart, AKA Hogwarts, and a whole lot of magic. This world is amazing in every way, with its flaws and imperfections. This book also delves into the more adult themes of slavery and racism. This book is rated OFF THE CHARTS and you can find it at pretty much every store that sell fictional books. And, by the way, Happy 20th anniversary of the publication of the first Harry Potter book! #potterhead4ever ! Byyyeeeeeessss! Nox! HAPPY READING

~Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire) Hello!!!!! Sofia here!!! Today I'm writing about a book called The Trillionist, by Sagan Jeffries. I went to the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo about a week ago (which, just to say, was brilliant!), and I got this book from there. Here we go!
ONCE UPON A BOOK REVIEW Summary: Welcome to the planet Tidon. A world almost exactly like our Earth. On Tidon, a woman gave birth to a child. A boy. A boy who would change the way the people lived. Sage Rojan is extremely unusual. He has a split personality, one happy, cheerful, and smart, the other distant, selfish and always driving Sage to do more. He is a brilliant inventor and a futurist, but, in the end, he has to save Tidon from his own doings. What are Sage's inventions? Why does he have a split personality? Who is this boy genius, turned madman, turned saviour? Read the book to find out! Review: Ok, I won't lie, it's a little creepy. Other than that, It's a brilliant science fiction novel, but the suspense is way overloaded. The night before I finished the book, I read until 11:00pm! I'd rate it Stuck To It, and you can find it on Amazon.ca, which brings me to my other reason. Mental Health Awareness Week. Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) (also known as Mental Health Awareness Week) was established in 1990 by the U.S. Congress in recognition of efforts by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to educate and increase awareness about mental illness. I think it's important that if you have a mental illness, someone is there for you. in the book, Sage is diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder, and he's afraid of telling anyone. There is someone there for you, no matter where you are. That's all for today! Have a good May! HAPPY READING P.S. May the Fourth be with you ~Star Wars Hello my readers. Witches, Wizards, and Muggles. (Strictly NO Death Eaters) Welcome back to my library! Today I'll be reviewing one of my favorite books OF ALL TIME... HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE! Harry Potter is my LIFE! I don't know who I'd be without it (Thank you J.K. Rowling!!!). So, in the beginning, I REALLY didn't want to read Harry Potter. I thought it was too scary, and not interesting. But then we were at the mall, at a bookstore, and my dad told me to try reading Harry Potter, and I was like "Fine", and I started reading. My dad couldn't have known what he did to me that day. As soon as I finished the first chapter of the first book, My life had changed. I needed the rest of the books. 1 year and a little bit later, I have read the books at least 10 times each, own almost all the movies, and watched them 3 times each, read 5, and own 3 of the add on books, have loads of merchandise (including a wand), become a proud Ravenclaw, and visited one of the Harry Potter theme parks. So, after all this, let's get on with the review!
ONCE UPON A BOOK REVIEW One Tuesday night, A typical, extremely normal, and proud to be ordinary family's life takes a most unpleasant turn. The Dursleys were some of the last people you'd expect to do anything mysterious or odd, yet that is exactly what they end up doing. Harry Potter was no more than one year old when he was dropped on the Dursleys doorstep, with a fresh lightning shaped scar on his forehead. The Dursleys knew that he would be abnormal, odd, and strange. Pretty much everything they despised. 10 years later, they were proved right, by none other than Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. This is the beginning of an adventure for Harry, and his friends, Ron and Hermione. In Harry's life, there is a lot of things to be done, like classes, Quidditch, and stopping a certain Dark Wizard. What happens in Harry's first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Why does he live with the Dursleys? What's Quidditch? Who is this so called "Boy Who Lived"? Read the book to find out! Summary: This book... is not a book. To me, Harry Potter is a lifestyle. J.K. Rowling did such an amazing job writing this that the Wizarding World, where magic exists, people are wizards and witches, and they go to a school of MAGIC, seems like a real thing. Everything is just so perfect and just... I have no words. The characters feel like real people, that are your friends, that are your enemies, they are just so relatable, and this world is just so beautiful and everything relates to another, and Harry Potter teaches that there are causes that are worth dying for, but none worth killing for, and that words may be our most inexhaustible source of magic, but love is the most powerful type of magic on this earth. So much fabulous thought has gone into the plot, and the result is... again, lost for words. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the best, I would rate Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone 9 3/4! (Hahaha, get it Potterheads?) But actually, I would rate it OFF THE CHARTS!, I would recommend it for Witches, Wizards, and Muggles of all ages, and you can find it at pretty much every bookstore or library. Please keep an eye out for more of my posts, Byeeeeeeee! HAPPY READING We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.
~Malala Yousafzai Helloooo! Today I'll be reviewing a book called The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart, and illustrated by Carson Ellis. My friend Isabella introduced me to this book, and now I'm going to pay it forward, and introduce it to you! Here we GO!!!
ONCE UPON A BOOK REVIEW. Summary: Reynie Muldoon is an odd child. He's an orphan, he doesn't like TV and is assigned to a tutor because he's ahead of everyone else. He starts thinking that there is no other place for him in the world, when this peculiar ad appears in the newspaper: "ARE YOU A GIFTED CHILD LOOKING FOR SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES?" Along with Reynie, a myriad of children register to take a sequence of strange and mind-bending tests. After all this, four special children succeed. they are given a challenge to go on a secret mission to save the world from a great danger. A mission only the brightest and most resourceful children could complete. Who passes the tests? What are the tests like? What is the danger the children have to save the world from? What is the Mysterious Benedict Society? Read the book to find out! Review: This book is GREAT! It's also pretty creepy, so I wouldn't read it at night. In fact, the only thing I don't like about this book is that it's super creepy!! Other than that, the illustrations and words match up perfectly! This book is 50% mystery, 50% adventure and 100% kid power! I rate it Stuck to it, and you can find it at Indigo, Cole's and Chapters. I'd recommend his book for ages 9 and over. Sofia Out! HAPPY READING! "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one."
~George R.R. Martin Hello y'all! It's Sofia! As you probably already know, I support charities like WE, especially ones that support education! Did you know that 25 MILLION kids will never get to go to school? That's why I'm challenging you! If you want to go extreme, I'm challenging you to read a page for every child that doesn't get to go to school. If you don't want to do that, here is a list of types of books that you must read by the end of the year (if you accept). The rules are also below. HIT IT!!
HAPPY READING! Hellloooo! It's MEEE, Sofia! Today I'm reviewing one of my faves, The Fountain, by Suzy Vadori. I discovered this treasure when I went to Chapters (a bookstore) and the author of the book was signing copies of the book! I not only got a signed copy of the book, I met the author and I got two coupons for free Jugo Juice! ONCE UPON A BOOK REVIEW. Summary: Ava Marshall (our main character) has a incomplete life. Her mom, Mariam Taylor, died when she was 10. At age 16, Ava still misses her mom dearly, so she enrolls into the very same school where her parents met, St. Augustus. When she finally gets there, it's a dream come true! At least for the most part. After she meets all her friends, Jules, Kelly and Kiera, to name a few, she meets her enemy. Courtney Wallis. Courtney is on the swim team like Ava is hoping to be, but Courtney doesn't want her there. She does everything possible to get her suspended, or even expelled! After her disastrous week, Ava decides to go visit her grandmother, who lives near the school. While on her way she come across a fountain. Like she does with every single one she encounters, she made a wish. A wish that changes her life. What does Courtney do to Ava? How does the Fountain change her life? What can Ava do about her wish? Read the book to find out! Review: I really like this book! It was SUPERCOOL to meet the author since I want to be a writer! The plot, the characters, the drama, the magic and the adventures all tie together in a beautiful fashion. Everything about this story is a masterpiece and it all starts with page one. This book is definitely NOT your average novel! My favorite part is when (Spoiler alert!) They find out how the fountain works and when Ava and a boy named Ethan Roth find the "Wall of Wishes"- Oops! I said too much! Anyway, I rate this book... AWESOME!!!!(the scale is: Just NO, Poor, Good, Stuck to it, Awesome and OFF THE CHARTS!) And I'd recommend it for ages 10 to 14 (but really there is no age limit). This book is available at Chapters (Indigo), mcnallyrobinson.com and Amazon.com. All book lovers, Stay fabulous! Sofia, out...For now! HAPPY READING!!!!!! |
